Whose America Will We Live In After the Presidential Election? Kamala Harris and Donald Trump Will Have a Close Race.

Before tomorrow's election, here's a final review of the United States presidential candidates. The 2024 election is deemed one of the nation's most important elections to date.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris (Vice President of the United States) is committed to strengthening America's democracy if she wins the upcoming election. As a former middle-class citizen who was raised in a single-parent home with her mother and sister in Oakland, Harris plans to elevate the 'middle class.' Her proposals to cut taxes for middle-class America, make home ownership more affordable, and support small businesses could significantly impact the lives of many. VPOTUS Harris also aims to lower the costs of essential needs and health care. The VPOTUS promises to work with labor unions, small business owners, and entrepreneurs to create employment opportunities for working and middle-class citizens. She also plans to make child care more affordable and balance long-term care.

Harris intends to restore women's reproductive rights. In 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, deciding that it was no longer a woman's constitutional right to have an abortion (even in cases of rape or incest). As of now, 13 states in the union have a total ban on abortions. Several states have blocked abortions after a gestational limit of 6 and 12 weeks.

VPOTUS Harris made history as the first female Vice President and was endorsed by President Biden to run in the 2024 election after he dropped out of the race. Despite having mixed-race heritage—a Black-Jamaican father and an Indian mother, several Americans have labeled her as not being "black." Despite Harris attending a historically black university, Howard University, and belonging to the African American sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, she faces a relative amount of backlash for saying she's black.

The current VPOTUS represented California in the U.S. Senate, was California's attorney general, and served as San Francisco's district attorney. During her tenure as a district attorney, Harris also received scrutiny for some of her judgment calls against alleged criminals, as well as members of law enforcement who reportedly harmed and killed community members without probable cause. Non-Harris supporters appear to come in the form of fellow blacks who refuse to acknowledge her heritage, people who were offended by her leadership as San Francisco's DA, nationalist, racist, and sexist.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump (Republican) pledges to make America great again by effectively punishing criminals, ending veteran homelessness, restricting illegal aliens from receiving welfare, going to war against drug cartels, and giving life in prison for human traffickers; he is a convicted felon. His policies, if implemented, could have significant and far-reaching consequences for the nation.

In May, he was found guilty of 34 counts of falsification of business records. He faces jail time. According to The Guardian, "When the American electorate delivers its verdict next week, the personal stakes for Donald Trump will be uniquely high. His fate will hover between the presidency and the threat of prison." TG continues, "If he claims victory, Trump will be the first convicted criminal to win the White House and gain access to the nuclear codes. If he falls short, the 78-year-old faces more humiliating courtroom trials and potentially even time behind bars. It would be the end of a charmed life in which he has somehow always managed to outrun the law and duck accountability."

Some Americans are startled by other details of the former President's political agenda. Trump wants to shut down the Department of Education, grant police officers immunity from prosecution, and implement Project 2025. Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett describes Project 2025 as "the blueprint, the roadmap for them to have complete control over the government." According to MSNBC, the project plans to "gut" American rights with Project 2025. Trump would reportedly like to implement Schedule F (an executive order) that will allow the removal of Trump's order to make expert government employees, at-will employees, and fireable for no reason. MSNBC states that the former President would then be able to replace career government employees with his lackeys. Several Americans fear that Trump aims to reshape America for personal gain, rendering it down to nations that were ruled by tyranny. Bruce Springsteen performed at the Harris-Walz rally; he said, "Kamala Harris "is running to be the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump is running to be an American tyrant."

Who Are The Other Candidates?

Dr. Cornell West (Independent & Third Party) is a philosopher, theologian, political activist, politician, social critic, public intellectual, and author of the thought-provoking book Race Matters. Dr. West was a well-respected professor at Yale, Princeton, and Harvard. He's currently a professor of philosophy at Union Theological Seminary.

Dr. Jill Stein (Green Party) is a physician who ran for President in 2012 and 2016. Stein promises America an "economic bill of rights," which will grant citizens the right to employment, health care, housing, food, and education. Stein also believes in abortion rights and transgender rights.

Chase Oliver, a gay (Libertarian), reportedly opposes war and wishes to dismantle the Federal Reserve. The Libertarian candidate said he would outlaw the death penalty for federal crimes. Oliver describes himself as "armed and gay."

Claudia De la Cruz (Party for Socialism and Liberation) is the second youngest candidate. De la Cruz is a pastor and activist. She supports working-class Americans and advocates for single-payer health care, reparations for Black Americans, and a decrease in our military's budget.

Tuesday, November 5th, is election day. Remember to vote.
