Tito Jackson, From the Legendary Jackson 5 Group & Older Brother to Michael and Janet Jackson, Has Died at 70
Tito Jackson, legally known as Toriano Adaryll Jackson, formerly of the legendary band the Jackson 5, reportedly died Sunday at 70. He was a guitarist and singer in the group.
Tito reportedly passed away while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma, according to a family friend, Steve Manning, who gave a statement to Entertainment Tonight. It's believed he suffered from a heart attack, yet no cause of death has been given yet.
Tito is the second sibling to pass away in the Jackson family after the late pop star Michael Jackson died in 2009. He's also the older brother of singer Janet Jackson. Their father, Joe Jackson, who was responsible for all of his children's careers, passed away in 2018.
In the 1960s, the Jackson family, which included ten children, left Gary, Indiana, and settled in California as Motown Records recording artists. The Jackson 5, also known as The Jacksons (Randy, Tito, Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine, and Michael), had countless hits and global superstardom before disbanding when Michael Jackson started his solo career. The group had a cult-like following, merchandise, and a Jackson 5 cartoon. The Jacksons sold roughly 150 million albums worldwide, have a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Tito's sons announced his death via Instagram, stating, "We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being." "It will forever be 'Tito Time' for us," they continued. "Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is 'Love One Another.' We love you Pops."
Rest in Peace.
