The Notorious B.I.G., also known as Biggie (Christopher Wallace), was gunned down in Los Angeles, California, after the Soul Train Awards in 1997. He was 24. His murder came after the murder of his industry rival, Tupac Shakur, who died in 1996. Both murders remain unsolved.
Voletta, a former school teacher and Jamaican immigrant, became highly involved in her only child's legacy and estate—she was a producer of the 2009 film "Notorious" about his life. She reportedly managed his estate and ballooned it to an estimated $160 million. The Wallace family also opened The Biggie Experience, which honors the life and legacy of the late New York rapper!

In 1999, Tupac's mom, Afeni Shakur, and Ms. Wallace united at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards to honor their slain sons despite their deadly music rivalry. Their unity was a salient moment for hip-hop. At the awards, the mothers shared an embrace—before addressing the audience, explaining the importance of preserving the legacies of their sons and honoring their contributions to the entertainment industry. Wallace told the crowd, "The fact that we are even standing here shows what the power of faith, friends, family, loved ones, and fans can do to bring us all closer."
Throughout the years, Wallace expressed her frustrations with B.I.G.'s murder going unsolved. Yet, she remained pretty active in the hip-hop community alongside Biggie's children, Christopher Wallace Jr. and T'yanna Wallace, who were relatively young at the time of his death. C.J. played 'Christopher Wallace' as a child in "Notorious," alongside Angela Bassett, who played Ms. Wallace.
