Memphis authorities have yet to confirm the motive for the shooting death of Anthony "Big Jook" Mims, the older brother of rapper Yo Gotti. Big Jook was reportedly gunned down Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, outside Perignons Restaurant and Event Center, while a second man was critically injured. Updated reports said the second victim is now stable.

According to Fox 13 Memphis, the Memphis police have video footage of the crime, but no suspects have been identified yet. Surveillance cameras show a white Ford Explorer with dark-tinted windows and no license plates leaving the crime scene.

Big Jook reportedly attended a funeral earlier that day with Yo Gotti and was leaving the repass when he was shot outside the venue. Jook has received an outpour of love and condolences via social media. Memphis calls for an end to the cycle of violence. The forty-seven-year-old reportedly assisted his brother with business ventures for Yo Gotti's record label, CMG. It's unclear if Gotti's older brother felt his life was in danger; the day before his death, he posted the following statement on his Instagram account, "They don't want to face you. They wanna snake you. Stay alert 2 stay alive watch your back at all times."
