Rapper Plies presented South Carolina's head coach, Dawn Staley, with a stunning diamond-encrusted necklace in recognition of her achievements as a three-time winner of the NCAA women's basketball title.

After receiving the gift, Dawn expressed her gratitude on Instagram, stating,"I know you didn't gift me this piece of treasure for anything but love. I so appreciate you for doing your big one but you always have done it big. Thank you for your love, your support & your organic belief in @GamecockWBB. I'll wear it proudly knowing our mission.❤️🐔"

The two celebrities have shared posts about each other over time, showcasing their friendship on social media. When Plies gave Staley the necklace (shaped like an NCAA trophy and engraved with the years she won the championships), he stated: "The Way That I Admire U No Gift Nor Any Amount Of Money Could Ever Match That!! What U Exemplify & Stand For As A Person Is What I'm A Fan Of. The Wins & Losses Isn't What Drew Me To U. But Your Purpose & Who U Are As A Person Did!! This World Is So Blessed To Have U. As A Coach I Feel U The Best In The Business. As A Person I Feel U Even Better! U Represent Us So Well & I'm Proud To Say I Know U!! ❤️ #Plies #UAintRegular @gamecockwbb."

Plies and Lisa Leslie was seen at Sunday's game, where the Gamecock's defeated Indiana, 64-53, to advance to the NCAA's Sweet 16. The Lady Gamecocks will play on Friday against Maryland in the first round of the S16.

Coach Staley led her team to win the national championships in 2017, 2022, and 2024. This season, the Lady Gamecocks have suffered two losses, to UCLA and Texas. After coaching at Temple University, Staley took on the head coaching role at South Carolina in 2008. Since then, she has achieved six Final Four appearances and over 450 wins.

Staley is a former basketball star known for her impressive career. A standout player from Philadelphia, she played NCAA basketball in Virginia and went on to compete in the WNBA. The former point guard earned three gold medals with Team USA at the Olympics, showcasing her talent alongside basketball legends Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, and Rebecca Lobo. In 2021, she successfully coached the USA women's basketball team to a gold medal at the Olympics. Staley is the only person to win the Naismith Award both as a player and as a coach.

Staley is an exceptionally celebrated female coach, such as Kim Mulkey, Pat Summitt, Tara VanDerveer, C. Vivian Stringer, and Muffet McGraw.
