Nicki Minaj Lashes Out About Lil Wayne Being Left Out of 2025 Super Bowl Half Time Show in His Hometown of New Orleans
Nicki Minaj lashed out on social media about Lil Wayne not being selected to perform at the 2025 Superbowl, which will be hosted in the rapper's hometown of New Orleans.
Instead of the NOLA rapper doing the halftime show for Super Bowl LIX, Kendrick Lamar has been asked to perform instead. This isn't Kendrick's first performance during the Super Bowl. The LA native performed at the Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles with Dr. Dre and 'Friends.'Nicki expressed her discontent with the decision on X; she stated, "God forbid if Wayne was to leave this earth right now, the culture would be mourning. That's why so many ppl keep saying to give our legends their flowers while they are still around to smell them. Sitting around all day playing games with ppl life & legacy. God ain't sleep. Gee Roberson you will learn that too. Very soon."
The Barbie queen made a second post to clarify her regard for Kendrick. She stated, "You can love and respect Kendrick and still love and respect Wayne. Even Kendrick loves and respects Wayne." TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!!! The whole DMV AREA. I'll see you soon. We will have a beautiful, magical, successful show. The New York rap Queen further lamented on X, stating, "Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!!!! Nola what's good,"
Lil Wayne entered the rap industry as a teen via Cash Money Records, with the assistance of Bird Man and his brother Slim Williams. Wayne later formed Young Money Records, where he, Nicki Minaj, and Drake were label mates. Minaj has expressed her loyalty and admiration for Wayne throughout the years. The two artists have collaborated on a plethora of musical projects.
Following the announcement of the Super Bowl halftime show, Drake, Kendrick's well-known nemesis, shared multiple photos of Wayne in support of him. Although Wayne has not responded publicly about not being selected for the 2025 halftime show, he expressed an interest in headlining the show during an interview with the 4Hunnid podcast.
Wayne's former mentor, Birdman, Master P, Camron, and Mase, all expressed their opinions on the Super Bowl. Master P, a fellow New Orleans native, stated on Instagram, "#LilWayne should be a part of this celebration as well. He's one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant, and he's a New Orleans native. Let's not miss this cultural moment in the South."
Kendrick Lamar's career has been heating up lately. The Grammy Award-winning artist and Pulitzer Prize winning rapper's recent feud with Drake only increased his popularity. However, some entertainers feel that industry politics are the reason the NOLA native wasn't asked to headline the Super Bowl. Rapper Camron stated, "Listen, I love Kendrick Lamar… I hate the selection," He continued, "It's in New Orleans and you don't get Lil Wayne? That's what we doing? You don't get Lil Wayne in New Orleans for the Super Bowl? … There's no reason why Lil Wayne shouldn't be performing in the Super Bowl." He noted, "It's not really a secret, Lil Wayne had a problem with somebody before who's kind of part of the organization running it. This is payback. Who's Lil Wayne's artist? Drake … Lil Wayne not to be performing in New Orleans for the Super Bowl is egregious and it's gotta stop."
