Mother of Man Caught on Camera Brutally Assaulting & Dragging New York City Woman with Belt Aided in His Arrest, “I’m his mother that turned him in."

Kashaan Parks/NYPD

An extremely brutal attack in the Bronx, New York, was caught on camera as a man lassoed a belt around a female victim's neck and dragged her before beating her, knocking her unconscious, and sexually assaulting her.

New York police arrested Kashaan Parks, 39, for first-degree rape, assault, strangulation, sex abuse, public lewdness and harassment for assaulting the 45-year-old victim. The incident went viral after video footage was released, sparking public outrage. Several people, even celebrities, shared the video on Instagram, speaking out about the tragic event. Upon Parks' arrest, Bronx citizens were seen berating him on video that also went viral.

Parks reportedly told his wife about his crimes, then his wife contacted his mother, Beverly Parks, about the situation. Beverly told the NY Post she was responsible for turning her son in to the cops. Beverly said she convinced her son to surrender. She told the New York Post, "I'm his mother that turned him in. I'm the one that facilitated his arrest." Parks is reportedly unemployed and struggling with drug and alcohol addictions, as well as grieving his father's death, according to his mother. The 56-year-old mother continued, "He … had a one-year-old baby. It's not like he was walking the street committing crimes and doing this." She explained, "I had my son go be accountable for his actions, no matter that he was drunk, that he was on drugs, that he was grieving." Beverly added, "He did something wrong and he has to deal with it. Period."

Beverly also explained to the New York Post that her son and his family recently relocated back to New York after living with his wife's parents in North Carolina, "I said [to Kashaan], 'I wish I had left you down there and never made that trip," she said. The attacker's mother is prayerful, "I'm a woman, and I am sorry that this happened to this person. I have to open and close my eyes every day and ask God to make sure this person is okay and ask for forgiveness for my son. "Whatever she has to live with, I am going to have to think about that for the rest of my life."

This is the 39-year-old's second arrest for assaulting a woman. The New York police believe he's committed this crime before; the NYPD stated, "There's probably more victims out there but what happens is they blackout and don't remember anything," the detective continues, "How do you get the belt around the neck perfectly like that?"
