Eric Harrison, 27, was stabbed to death while working security at Macy's in Philadelphia, at its Market Street location. According to Philadelphia's Fox 29 network, the suspect, "Tyrone Tunnell, was kicked out for attempting to steal hats. Tunnell returned 15 minutes later and stabbed Harrison and a second security guard." The other security officer reportedly survived.
Eric's family said he worked security as a second job while saving to buy a home. According to his family, his primary job was at the post office. Harrison's aunt, Tyree Harrison Harvey, gave Fox 29 a statement, "It's so unfortunate that he never made it home from work yesterday." said Harvey. "I'm having to wrap my mind around that." The victim's mother, Dawn Fobbs, told WPVI that her son had an incredible work ethic, a dry sense of humor, and was her best friend. His mother is having an extremely difficult time processing his death; she told the network, "It couldn't happen to a more innocent soul," Fobbs said. "Just at work doing your job, you know, his second job at that." "Over some merchandise, you came in and took my baby's life. He will never have children, he will never get married. All because of some hats," Dawn continued.
WPVI said the suspect, "Tyrone Tunnell, has been arrested more than a dozen times for retail theft, robbery, and drug offenses across the region, including Philadelphia and Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery counties. The DA's Office has charged him with Murder, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, Tampering with Evidence, and Retail Theft."
