Iowa outplayed LSU while Caitlin Clark scored 41 points last night, helping her team secure the win that advanced them into the final four, where they will compete against UConn for a chance to advance to the finals. LSU's Angel Reese suffered a mild injury, and LSU's sophomore star, Flaujae Johnson, tried to save her team by dropping 24 points; still, it was not enough for the Tigers to secure the win during the greatly anticipated rematch between LSU and Iowa.
LSU's coach, Kim Mulkey, praised Caitlin, acknowledging her as a generational player. "She just makes everybody around her better." Kim explained to the press that she told Clark, "I sure am glad you're leaving—Girl, you're something else." Mulkey continued, "I've never seen anything like it."
Last night, USC lost to UConn despite JuJu Watkins, USC's freshman, attempt to defeat Connecticut. Watkins is the NCAA's second-highest scorer behind Caitlin Clark. Last night, she earned the all-time Division 1 freshman scoring record, surpassing Tina Hutchinson. However, more than the team's efforts were needed to defeat the Huskies. UConn's guard, Paige Bueckers, scored 28 points during the game, leading the team to the final four. UConn's coach, Geno Auriemma, has won 11 NCAA championships. During press time, JuJu tearfully responded to the press' comments about breaking the NCAA freshman scoring record. Watkins explained that she was thankful and had been offered a great opportunity to play for USC.
The South Carolina Gamecocks, with a perfect season under their belt, are set to face North Carolina State in the final four. Led by coach Dawn Staley, who has the chance to lead the team to its third NCAA championship game. The Gamecocks and Iowa may have a rematch after last year's upset, when Iowa defeated South Carolina, preventing them from advancing to the championship game.
