Lil Durk, Sony and UMG Interscope Sued for the Death of Rapper FBG Duck
LaSheena Weekly, the mother of deceased Chicago rapper FBG Duck, has filed a lawsuit against rapper Lil Durk, his company Only the Family (OTF), Sony, UMG Interscope, and other people and entities for the murder of her son. The lawsuit alleges that Lil Durk and the late rapper King Von were responsible for ordering the hit against Duck in 2020.
LaSheena's attorney, Roosevelt Allen, said that larger labels welcome artists engaging in criminal activity and putting profit over human life. Attorney Allen gave his thoughts on the relationships between record labels and entertainers who promote criminal lifestyles: "They want authenticity, which has bred these types of individuals into the music business, carrying out their activities. And the record label companies are fueling it, financing it, developing brands for it." The lawsuit came before Lil Durk's recent arrest for the murder-for-hire plot of fellow rapper Quando Rondo.
Weekly talked with the No Jumper Podcast about her 26-year-old son's assassination in 2020. Duck's mother explained, "My baby was hit with a Draco 16 times." She contended during the interview that although Duck was also a part of "drill" rap culture, which originated in Chicago, he didn't bother people and was the light of his family. Mama Duck took pride in the fact that her son had never been arrested as an adult, had no gun or drug charges, nor had he ever served time in prison.
Drill music has been criticized for themes of violence, gang life, and drug use since its inception around 2010. Mama Duck explained that she believes a lyrical feud between Duck and Chicago rapper King Von led to her son's death. Von was gunned down only months after Duck in November 2020. Weekly finds the shootings to be senseless, and begged for peace after the murder of her son. The rapper's mother asked that no one sought retaliation for his death moving forward.
In January, six men were found guilty of the 26-year-old's death— Charles "C Murda" Liggins, Kenneth "Kenny Mac" Roberson, Tacarlos "Los" Offerd, Christopher "C Thang" Thomas, Ralph "Teezy" Turpin, and Marcus "Muwop" Smart were all found guilty of murdering Duck outside the Dolce & Gabbana store. It's believed someone gave up the Chicago rapper's location to his adversaries.
During a press conference, Mama Duck said, "Not a day goes by that I don't think about him and the life that was taken from him." According to the Mogul State of Mind podcast, Mama Duck would like to close the gap that remains from the feud. The rapper's mother had the opportunity to hold King Von's daughter during a public outing and said she would "love" to speak to his mother.
Duck's mother had a rather challenging life but remains thankful for God. She birthed nine children in inner-city Chicago— five of her children have died throughout the years from various circumstances, including a house fire.
