One day after what would have been Kobe Bryant's 44th birthday, a judge awarded his widow, Vanessa Bryant, $16 million in damages from Los Angeles County after photos of Kobe and Gianna's 2020 helicopter crash site got shared by first responders.
Vanessa's co-plaintiff, Christopher Chester, was awarded $15 million in damages from the lawsuit, which totaled $31 million. Christopher also lost his daughter and wife in the crash. The L.A. sheriff and fire department were both found guilty of forwarding pictures of human remains and destruction to non-employees.
During 11 days of trial, Bryant's widow explained to the court that she now suffers from anxiety attacks after learning these images exist. Vanessa said the Sheriff promised her that the crash site would be secured and privacy would be protected.
