Kendrick Lamar Honored with Mural at Tam's Burger Stand in Compton After Filming 'Not Like Us' with Compton Residents at Tam's
Once again, Kendrick Lamar, a proud son of Compton, incorporated his hometown into his artistry. The "Not Like Us" music video was filmed at Tam's Burger stand on Rosecrans Avenue in Compton alongside many Compton residents. This connection to his roots is yet another testament to Kendrick's loyalty and admiration for his hometown.
The "Not Like Us" video got nearly 20 million views on its first day and has roughly 45 million views to date. The millions of instantly generated views drove up the burger joint's foot traffic, so Tam's honored Kendrick with a mural.
Selecting the burger stand for his video treatment was a genuine gesture. Before the release of "Not Like Us," Lamar mentioned Tam's in his song "Element" [I be hangin' out at Tam's, I be on Stockton, I don't do it for the 'Gram, I do it for Compton.]
The sensation behind "Not Like Us" is not just a momentary buzz but appears to be a continuously growing wave. Kendrick Lamar's June 'Pop Out' concert further catapulted the song into the limelight of several different markets, leaving fans and music enthusiasts eager for more.
CW's Houston meteorologist, Adam Krueger, used "Not Like Us" during a weather report. Click here for the hilariously creative video. USA Basketball also played "Not Like Us" after securing a win against Canada in the Olympics exhibition game this week.
The Los Angeles Public Library has even weighed in on the new anthem, posting videos on TikTok and Instagram. The library asked its followers if it should retire its owl puppet (Drake's OVO brand image is an owl) since Lamar featured a caged owl and [owl piñata that he beat in the video].
The Compton anthem has been live-streamed over 490 million times on Spotify alone. Stay tuned for more Kendrick Lamar news.
