Journalists Criticize the U.S. Media's Lack of Coverage on Puerto Rico & Hurricane Fiona

Writer: Volume 82 MagazineVolume 82 Magazine

Hurricane Fiona ravaged Puerto Rico. The storm has left approximately 1.5 million people in PR without power. The storm has also destroyed the Dominican Republic, and weather advisors expect it to ruin parts of the Turks and Caicos islands.

However, several Americans are concerned with the lack of U.S. media coverage Puerto Rico has received during the national disaster. Some Americans feel that the media gave too much coverage to the death of Queen Elizabeth II instead of providing storm updates considering that Puerto Rico is a United States territory. Journalists Lisa Ling, Soledad O'Brien, and others took to social media to criticize our lack of coverage during this disaster.
