A Georgia woman was killed by her ex-husband at the Spalding County Courthouse in Griffin, Georgia, days after her divorce was finalized.
According to several reports, 44-year-old Krystal Evans was shot multiple times by her former husband, Tom Mallory, as she left the courthouse on Friday. Multiple news sources reported that Tom pulled up and opened fire from his car, fatally wounding his former spouse as she walked to her car from the courthouse for a hearing they both attended.
According to several Facebook posts that the 44-year-old mother and wife left while chronicling her divorce process, Tom Mallory refused to accept the divorce and, in turn, threatened and stalked her and her family and tried to ruin her credit as they divorced.
Based on her Facebook posts, Krystal, her children, and her ailing mother feared for their safety; she stated, "Please know if something happens to me, Tom Mallory did it..." Krystal wrote on August 3, "Leave my children and my mother alone. There are pictures of you stalking them and harassing them." "People are watching you...You have no business at the children's home or my mother's." She also wrote, "It's sad that I have to walk around, terrified for my life and my children's." The real-estate agent wrote, "I know if something happens to me. Please know who did it. This man has said numerous times that he's going to kill me. I am posting and trying to leave a paper trail. This man is extremely dangerous."
According to her daughter, Precious Evans, her father texted her mother, "Not happening," after the divorce was finalized. The ex-couple's daughter feels her mother's death could have been prevented. Precious alleges that a police escort was requested when her mother walked out to the courthouse, but it wasn't provided. She also said the judge issued a warrant for her father's arrest; however, the judge allowed Mallory until Monday to turn himself into authorities.
Precious stated, "My mom, literally, called the sheriff — the sheriff's department the day before because he was stalking her." "And they did nothing. Had they had someone to walk out with her, like her friend asked, she would still be here."
Reports state that Mallory evaded the authorities after the shooting, later attempting suicide, but survived his gunshot wounds.
Spalding County Sheriff, Darrell Dix made a statement about the situation; here is part of his response:
[Video from the lobby shows that as Mrs. Mallory walked through the lobby, she passed Deputies and did not ask for assistance either. She walked out of the courthouse to her car, that was parallel parked facing north on 6th St., and entered it. Mr. Mallory, who was in a second car, travelled north on 6th St. with the traffic flow, stopped beside her car where she was sitting, fired multiple rounds through the passenger side window of his car, and the rounds struck her. There were Deputies on the front of the courthouse and when they heard the shots they responded. Mr. Mallory by this time was driving off, and turned east on Solomon Street. A marked police unit got behind him and Mr. Mallory refused to stop. When he finally did stop, he shot himself in the head. He is still alive. Yes, in the past we have received multiple calls to the Mallory's residence].
