A DoorDash driver, 21-year-old Myron Snyder, was killed in 2023 while making a delivery. According to The Gazette, a Cedar Rapids, Iowa man, Cameron Leonard, 26, was tried in court and now faces life in prison for fatally shooting Snyder after he delivered food to his residence. During the trial, prosecutors argued Cameron and his younger brother, Maurice Brown, 21, "surrounded and ambushed" Snyder over alleged past conflicts.

According to multiple news reports, Leonard and Brown followed Snyder outside to his vehicle and opened fire on him as he attempted to leave the apartment complex at 3690 Sherman St. NE in his car. The findings from the trial illustrated that the 21-year-old victim returned fire in self-defense, killing Brown and injuring Leonard before he was shot to death.

As reported by The Gazette, "Sgt. Sean Kinkead, who investigated the crime scene, said after Brown fired three shots at the front of Snyder's car, he walked around to the driver's side and exchanged fire with Snyder while the 21-year-old remained in the car. Leonard was reportedly standing at the front of the car, with his gun drawn."

It was revealed during the trial that after Brown was struck and fell to the ground, Leonard moved near to the driver's side and started firing. Snyder fired back, according to Kinkead's testimony. Leonard then moved toward the rear of the car, firing multiple times through the back windshield, striking Snyder in his back. The delivery driver reportedly got out of his vehicle and went to the ground, shooting at Leonard, who was still at the rear of his car. Leonard returned shots and then crouched down to reload his gun, according to trial information that The Gazette reported.

A third man, Pierre Morrow, Brown and Leonard's stepfather, was also implicated in the case. Morrow reportedly accompanied Brown and Leonard when they followed Snyder outside. Morrow allegedly rallied around his stepsons during the shooting. A video reportedly shows him driving his car through the crime scene to another parking space, according to information presented at the trial.

There was a great deal of bloodshed-according to the medical examiner's report, Snyder died with six gunshot wounds, Brown had seven, and Leonard testified that he was shot six times.

Leonard also testified that he and his now-deceased brother, Maurice, had a previous conflict with the victim because Snyder wanted to date their sister, and they were against it. He claimed that he was acting in self-defense on the day of the shooting.

The trial concluded last Thursday—Leonard was found guilty of first-degree murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, and being a person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon. He will be sentenced at a later date.

Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks gave a statement after the verdict. "Today our hearts are with the family of Myron Snyder, Jr., who was taken away from them in a senseless and avoidable act of violence by the defendant, Cameron Leonard." Maybanks continued, "He was a son, a brother, a nephew, and a beloved friend to many. He worked for the Boys & Girls Club. He was an impressive young man with a bright future. His death was a loss for all of us. He will be missed."

Iowa's News Now spoke to Myron Snyder's mother, Alicia Rogers, about the outcome of the trial. Synder's mother said she feels "justice" was served.

Leonard will be sentenced at a later date.
