Derrick Rose Handed Out Free Roses at His Pop-Up Flower Shop 'Rose's' in Downtown Chicago
Derrick Rose handed out roses at his one-day-only flower pop-up shop, Rose's, yesterday in downtown Chicago. The lines reportedly stretched for blocks all day long.
The beloved Chicago native received great enthusiasm about bringing the pop-up shop to his hometown! He reportedly wanted to start his new year by spreading love to Chicago.
The former Chicago Bulls star teased the event on his Instagram, stating that "Rose's Flower Shop" will open from 12-4 p.m. at 350 North State Street. His social media followers were elated by his announcement; one Instagram user replied to his reminder post, "🥹 Rose we love you so bad ❤️." Several of Rose's followers responded with a rose emoticon. Another follower replied, "This is so beautiful 🌹congrats Pooh. We love you."
According to Vibe, "A recap video made by an attendee said the ambiance inside the store felt "cozy and warm" with roses everywhere. Guests were welcome to walk around and pick their own bouquet of flowers, which would then be shipped out afterward to anyone within at 15-mile radius of the location. There was also a VIP area where people could enjoy drinks, and of course, a meet-and-greet area to snap a pic with Rose himself."
Rose retired before the start of this season. Pooh, as many Chicagoans affectionately refer to Rose, was another one of inner-city Chicago's pride and joy upon being drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2008. The 6'3" point guard was the youngest of his mother, Brenda Rose's sons—all of her children were reportedly exceptional athletes.
The NBA and fans had high hopes for the basketball prodigy, yet he suffered many injuries throughout his career. Shortly after becoming the youngest MVP in the league, his injuries quickly started to impact his playing time.
The NBA veteran played for the Bulls, the Knicks, the Detroit Pistons, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Cleveland Cavaliers before ending his career.
