Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett joined the House of Representatives in 2023. She served as a co-chair for the 2024 Harris-Walz Presidential campaign and is currently a member of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Crockett is the 55th Black woman to serve in Congress.
During her brief time in Congress, she has gained significant popularity in the media for expressing her views on American politics. Last May, the St. Louis native, who refers to herself as a "bleeding heart liberal," went viral after having a highly charged confrontation on the floor of Congress with fellow Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R). In January, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R) also threatened Jasmine with physical violence during a congressional session, which likewise attracted widespread attention.
Since the recent presidential election, Crockett has been particularly vocal about the numerous radical changes implemented by the Trump Administration, which she believes threaten the nation's democracy.
President Trump has signed a total of 87 executive orders since taking office. Some of these orders include withdrawing the U.S. from the World Health Organization and ending Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. Other notable actions include proposing immunity for police officers from prosecution, cutting thousands of government jobs—resulting in about 30,000 layoffs or firings as of February—including hundreds of workers from the Federal Aviation Administration amid several national plane collisions. In 2025, there have been 14 fatal aircraft accidents. Additionally, efforts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, proposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare, changes to veterans' healthcare, freezes on funding for cancer and Alzheimer’s research, and reductions in funding for HIV/AIDS programs have left many Americans feeling distressed.
Since the election, U.S. relations have become tense due to tariff negotiations, restrictions on U.S. aid, and issues surrounding deportations. Thousands of Americans have protested against the Trump administration, and this month's State of the Union address turned into a political debacle. Congressman Al Green (D) was censured for interrupting President Trump's speech, and several members of Congress walked out in protest during the address. Congressman Green said, "I was making it clear to the President that he has no mandate to cut Medicaid!" He continued, I have people who are very fearful. These are poor people, and they have only Medicaid in their lives when it comes to their healthcare."
During an interview with The Breakfast Club, Congresswoman Crockett reminds Americans that President Trump was convicted of 34 felonies before his reelection and that she's apprehensive about his ability to serve the American people fairly. In several social media clips and her recent conversation with Charlamagne tha God on TBC, she outlines the impending changes and potential collateral damage that Americans should prepare for. Here are Jasmine's responses from her interview with The Breakfast Club regarding several political matters:
Recession, Deportation, Farm Labor, and Rising Food Costs
We are headed to a recession… You're gonna end up in a situation where you're not gonna be able to afford the food. You're (the President) getting rid of the people that labor in the fields. They (our nation) have always relied on some person of color to labor. (The low wages paid to immigrant laborers are what keep the food costs down in the nation).
These (the laborers) are also the people who are building our houses. As you're complaining about the cost of homes...Now, we have another input cost that's about to go up.
ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is Arresting U.S. Citizens
I just talked to contractors down in Atlanta, Georgia. They talked about the fact that their workers are not showing up to work because they are concerned about whether or not they (ICE) are gonna come and try to take them away-and this is even if you are a citizen...ICE is so ignorant; they are rounding up everybody..They're rounding up Puerto Ricans!..They are Americans! They are rounding up Native Americans—They are 'the' most American that you can find...So, people of color are like, I'm not even going to work!
Private Industry Will Suffer
Private industry is signaling that they know the recession is coming. South West airlines just cut 15% of their workforce. Private industry is starting to collapse and starting to reduce their workforce instead of increasing it...People don't realize how many organizations, private or otherwise, rely on federal dollars.
The Elimination of Government Jobs and Elon Musk's Conflicts of Interest
They are going after career civil servants...If we fired everybody that worked for the federal government, it's maybe only four or five percent of our budget (Post office workers, IRS workers, and the FAA)...
Approximately 50% of our discretionary budget is defense (The Department of Defense), and they can't pass an audit...So why didn't we start there? Elon has decided that he was going to get two new contracts-one for $400 million to Tesla, one for a little over $300 million to SpaceX. I don't know why we didn't start there (instead of cutting thousands of government jobs).
The Upper Class Will Primarily Benefit from the Trump Administration's Agendas
Those Trump tax cuts—they expire right about now and he's trying to reinstitute them. They actually want to deepen the tax cuts for all those billionaires that were sitting on stage with him on January 20th. That is why we ran into debt the last time. (America went 8 trillion dollars into debt during Trump's first term)...The only time we've had a budget that was clean and we didn't have to worry about debt- you know who was in office?..Bill Clinton—a Democrat (Kamala Harris was proposing the same tax rate).
Checks and Balances
(Elon sold the government Tesla trucks, which is a conflict of interest). He's selling these trucks at the same time that he's getting rid of all the people that were conducting investigations over him about Tesla, about SpaceX, he got rid of all those people...(Trump recently told FOX News that moving forward, no one will oversee Elon's business conflicts...Elon has made another 100 billion dollars since the election!
Are the $5,000 Checks From the Trump Administration Coming?
I don't see it happening, right now it is not a part of the budget that they have proposed. That is for sure. The budget that they proposed when they went through a 13-hour markup just the other day proposed getting rid of medicare! So, I mean theoretically, they should have the money, if you decide that people won't have healthcare in this country.
What Can Be Done to Rebalance America?
There are things we can do. We (The U.S. House) have three seats that are about to be up. I'm telling people put all of your energy into those seats!.. (The guardrails are the courts) He wants to dismantle the Constitution.
Government Shutdown
I think we're shutting down on March 14th. The last time we shut down was under Trump. We shut down I think at least two times, and the longest shut down we've ever had in the history of this country came under Trump.
He's different. This is a guy who has had his name on buildings forever. And he's very good at creating this perception-he's created this perception that I am that guy. He literally became the closest thing to Teflon Don (Former mob boss John Gotti) that we have ever seen! Who has this many cases in this many jurisdictions? He used to be talked about in rap songs...I think it's hard for you to say, oh no, he's a terrible person because there's been this kind of aura around him that was created, which may have been ok for TV, music, casinos...but it ain't ok in the oval office!
