John Amos' daughter, Shannon Amos, painfully announced on Instagram that she learned of her father's death with the rest of the world and shared that he died on August 21st, and not this week as it was announced to the public. It appears that her brother, K.C. Amos, was aware of their father's passing but failed to share the news with Shannon and her daughter.

Shannon stated via Instagram, [I am without words…Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st. We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you. This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free. My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you].

In recent times, media reports said John's children were experiencing family conflict regarding his overall well-being and finances. His daughter reportedly filed an elder abuse claim against her brother T.C.

Shannon announced a Go-Fund-Me when John was hospitalized in recent years; she shared a video stating, "My dad is in the hospital here in Memphis...He was traveling on business, from what I understand. And he called me. He called for help...She continued, "We learned that pretty much everything that was worth anything in his house is gone... He's got a long road ahead of him; let's just put it like that." She said, "My dad is a very private person; he probably would not love that I have launched a Go-Fund-Me campaign. My father has been the victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation."

Yet, John made a video announcement from his hospital bed stating, "Prior to entering the hospital, I had some ongoing issues with my daughter, who I feel has taken advantage of me, and she would be the primary suspect [if you would]...But she's the one that I'd attribute my elderly abuse to, and it's definitely a case of elderly abuse."

The veteran actor interviewed with PEOPLE in 2023 regarding his family issues. The Good Times actor told PEOPLE, "Right now, it is somewhat acrimonious, but never mind what you might read or hear about in the paper or on this medium or that medium platform," he said. "Suffice it to say we are still family, and we love each other, and that's the bottom line."

Perhaps the family was strengthening its relationship; John also told PEOPLE, "It is [K.C.'s] sibling, that is my daughter, my first child. I love her. K.C. loves his sister. We just have, I guess, what might be best described in the tabloids is an acrimonious relationship, but everything heals in time, and the love is still there," he confirmed. He added- "all families go through trials and tribulations of some sort," but he hoped for a "harmonious relationship at some point."

Since the announcement of John's death, Shannon has shared several alarming stories on Instagram: "Someone was in the E.R. the night my father died and pretended to be his daughter. I'm his only daughter. We Believe it was Belinda Foster the woman also posing as his publicist. He died alone without family. Anyone who knows anything please dm me! Any info shared will be confidential."

Shannon shared another Instagram story: "The truth will always reveal itself." She also shared a disheartening story that her Godsister posted: "With the utmost sadness that I mourn my godfather. We the family, are just finding out today from the news same as everyone else. He died on August 21st and K.C. did not tell anyone...not John's daughter or granddaughter..not his manager..no one...The level of evil is beyond words. Rest in peace John...I love you."

Shannon stated, "People think this is about money and rivalry... it is not." Amos' firstborn explained...I love my brother and I hope he will get the help he needs, but we need to prioritize the safety of my father who is vulnerable, first and foremost. Anything else can be addressed within our family."

The actor's heartbroken daughter continues to share photo tributes and quotes to honor the talented actor.
