Actor Gene Hackman, 95, his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64, and their dog were found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home, according to several media outlets.
The New York Times reported that the couple's neighbors requested a welfare check, and authorities discovered their bodies on Wednesday, yet they were not identified until Thursday.
As of now, an investigation is in progress, with no signs of foul play, but the Santa Fe authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death.
The actor's daughter, Elizabeth Jean Hackman, told TMZ she thinks her father and his wife died from carbon monoxide poisoning or possibly from inhaling other toxic fumes.
Gene and Betsy
Gene was a talented Academy Award-winning actor and starred in several Hollywood blockbuster films, including Enemy of the State, Bonnie and Clyde, The French Connection, The Poseidon Adventure, Mississippi Burning, Unforgiven, Superman, Hoosiers, and The Royal Tenenbaums. He was known for his versatile acting skills and his ability to portray a wide range of characters.
Hackman and Betsy were reportedly sighted in Santa Fe on regular outings. Yet, Hackman and his wife retreated from Hollywood to New Mexico more than 20 years ago to live simple and reclusive lives. His last Hollywood appearance was reportedly in 2003 at the Golden Globe Awards.
This is a developing story.
